Bird Watching Tanzania trips Overview

Our Bird Watching Tanzania trips provide bird lovers and watchers with the best experiences in Tanzania. Tanzania is one of the best bird-watching destinations in Africa. With a record of more than 1100 species, it is truly an ideal destination for bird lovers. These range from the Savanna, Plain, Marine, and mountain forests. Of them, 30 are endemic, 45 are accidental (birds that show up outside of their normal range).

There are 4 main zones with several destinations for bird watching in Tanzania. Each zone has got Common, Rare, and Endemic bird species and sub-species. And, these species and sub-species are based on the changes in environments and altitudes from Sea levels. To read the description and kinds of birds in each zone, click on the listed bird watching zones below.

One-day to one-week or more is a good duration for a birding trip in the northern zone of Tanzania. While three to four weeks is better, it allows going to the Eastern and Southern birding zones as well.

On 1 and a half-week trip in northern Tanzania, a bird watcher might probably see more than 300 species. This is including the rare Secretary Bird, Martial Eagle, African Hoopoe, Spotted Eagle Owl, Long Crested Eagle, etc. Also can see Endemic Birds like Grey-breasted Spur-fowls, Spike-heeled (Beesley’s) Larks, Usambiro Barbets, and Rufous-tailed Weaver, to mention a few!

For many years, we have been arranging and guiding bird-watching trips. Some of which have allowed serious birders to see rare and endemic birds in mountain forests. These birds are including Uluguru Bush-shrike, Mrs Moreau’s Warbler, Loveridge’s Sunbird, Swynnerton’s Robin, Uduzungwa Forest-partridge, Iringa Akalat, etc. For more lists of rare and endemic species, please, see them in the bird-watching zone links given above.
