The Overview and the Detailed Itinerary for 3 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking trip

The 3 days Kilimanjaro trekking trip, will give you an opportunity to hike on the Marangu Route and stay a first night at Mandara Huts, 2720m. The day after you will wake up early in the Morning and walk to Horombo Huts, 3720m for another night. Because you have only 3 days, will not be enough for you to reach the summit. Therefore, after breakfast here you will return to Mandara for lunch and then hiking back. Hikers who want to get to the Top they take at least 5 or 6 days.

All short treks are offered on a private basis, and you can start on any day of the year. The short treks are geared for people who like to hike but reaching the summit is not a “must do”, and allow one to experience the excitement of hiking on the highest peak on the African continent.

All trekking inside of the Tanzania National Park require the services of a certified Kilimanjaro guide, and the Marangu route is the only route where short treks are allowed. For an overnight hike you will stay at the park huts.

The Detailed Itinerary for 3 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking trip

Day 1: Kilimanjaro National Park Marangu Gate (1,970m) to Mandara Huts (2,720m)

After breakfast and briefing, we will drive to the Kilimanjaro Park Gate (about 45 minutes), after we arrive at the Gate, you will do registration before we start our trekking tout. Soon after we finish registration we will start walking through the rainforest to the Mandara Campsite. Later in the everning you will have a short walk to Maundi Crater here is a good to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and part of Kenya. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus foliage trees, bird life, and rare Colobus monkeys.

  • Difficulty Level: Moderate
  • Duation: 3 days/2 nights
  • Accommodation: In comfortable mountain huts on wood-bunk beds with thick foam mattresses covered with sheets. Note that a sleeping bag is missing here!
  • The huts are fitted with solar system lights

Day 2: Mandara Huts (2,720m) to Horombo Huts (3,720m)

This day you will use 6 to 7 hours. So make sure you have enough water to drink on the way, not less than 3 liters of water. You leave the glades of the rainforest and follow an ascending trail on the open moorlands to the Horombo camp. Views of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo are amazing. Look for giant lobelias and groundsels. You may begin to feel the effects of the altitude.

Day 3: Horombo Huts (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,970m)

Soon after breakfast, a steady descent takes us down through moorland to the Mandara Hut. Continue descending through lush forest path to the National Park gate at Marangu. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).
Our driver will meet you at Marangu gate and drive you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.
