Bagamoyo, whose name means ‘bury – laydown my heart’ in Kiswahili, is the oldest town in Tanzania, founded by the end of the 18th century. It was the original capital of German East Africa where famous explorers such as Burton, Speke, Stanley and Livingstone once passed. It was the point reached by the caravans of slaves who arrived for transpoartion to Zanzibar and thereafter to faraway places.

Currently the town is famous centre of dhow building in the region and its wonderful beach. It’s a magic town that is visited by many people from different places of the world to see the tree where the sell and purchase of slaves was carried down as well as the fortified houses where slaves were kept while waiting for transportation.

From Bagamoyo 45km lies Saadani National Park while Kaole ruins five kilometers to the South. A quiet village with a few German colonial buildings still standing. In the past, the town of Bagamoyo was one of the most important trading ports on the entire East African coast. Most tourist prefer weekend holidays in Bagamoyo Town, which lies about 75 km north of Dar es Salaam on the coast of the Indean Ocean, close to the Islands of Zanzibar.

Day 01
Dar Es salaam – Bagamoyo
After breakfast this morning, check-out of the hotel in Dar es salaam to start your safari to Bagamoyo town. On arrival, you will have an opportunity to visit the Kaole Ruins. Later drive to your beach hotel arriving in time for lunch. After lunch enjoy relaxing on the beach for leisure with your partner. In the evening head back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 02
Full Day Bagamoyo Excursion
After breakfast, enjoy local sightseeing covering visits to the historical sites including the Caravan Serai, an old terminus of the caravans coming from the interior to the shore of the Indian Ocean; the Catholic Church, established in 1868 with the Livingstone power where Livingstone rested for one night before his body was shipped to Zanzibar; cemeteries with 47 tombs of early missionaries; German building such as Old Boma and the Customs House; and salt processing units. Enjoy lunch in one of the hotels in town. Later drive to the beach to spend sometime relaxing, in the evening, return to your hotel and after a warm dinner, rest overnight in your room.

Day 03
Bagamoyo – Dar es Salaam
After breakfast head to the beach, spending time and having fun is the best way to spend a day at the beach. later take your lunch at your hotel, followed by drive back to Dar es Salaam and drop off at your Hotel or transfer to the airport to catch flight back home. Believe us; you will cherish the memories of Bagamoyo for long.
